About LSRC

Lakeside Swim & Racquet Club:  The Early Years

In 1956, Lakeside Recreation Association was formed by a group of visionaries in the community who recognized the value of having a safe and wholesome place for families and children to gather and enjoy the summer months.  The founding Board of Directors acquired eight acres of land, which is nestled in a beautiful, tree-lined setting with Rocky Branch Creek running through the property.  Ever since, we have been one of "the best kept secrets in Lakeside."

In the summer of 1957, the original pool was opened with over 100 Charter members.  Since then, tennis courts and an additional competitive pool were added.  In 1972, the name of the association was changed to Lakeside Swim and Racquet Club, which better reflected both the swim and tennis aspects of the Club.

Many children in the greater Richmond area have grown up wiling away their summers swimming and playing tennis at Lakeside.  We are pleased that so many of those children have returned as adult members to raise their own children and grandchildren at this family oriented facility.  We applaud our founding families for their vision and determination and thank the many volunteers over the years who have kept the vision alive and successfully guided us through changing times, natural disasters, and financial challenges.  For over fifty years, our success continues to be in the hands and hearts of our members whose willingness to give freely of their time and talents ensure the future of Lakeside Swim & Racquet Club.

Rules of the Club

LSRC has established Facility Rules to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for members and their guests.  These rules are guidelines that are subject to change without notice.  While all rules are to be adhered to, violation of certain rules will warrant immediate suspension from the facility and the case will be presented to the Board of Directors for final recommendation.  Repeat offenses of facility rules, such as, but not limited to, horseplay, profanity, or being disrespectful to those listed in Rule #1 can result in the member and/or guest being asked to leave the premises.  Continued violations will be brought to the attention of the Management Committee for review and corrective action.  For your convenience, the Facility Rules are provided here and are also available from the Forms and Documents page:  LSRC Facility Rules 07092015.pdf

Smoking is allowed only in the designated area inside the pool fencing between the wooden pool deck and the pump house. LSRC asks that you use this area only when smoking, to keep the section available to all smokers.  While smoking is still allowed in the parking lots and areas outside the fence, all smokers should carefully extinguish all tobacco products as well, and be courteous by not smoking near entrances where children and members are coming into the facility. This smoking policy is a pool rule and will be strictly enforced by pool management staff.  Members and guests who do not comply may be asked to leave the facility.

Guests and Guest Passes

A great benefit to members is the ability to bring guests to the Club, and LSRC welcomes members' guests to the facility.  We hope that you will enjoy your experience at the Club and look forward to returning.  The member, as the sponsoring host, must be present at the Club when the guest visits.  Guest fees this year remain the same at $7 per person.  You can purchase a book of 10 guest passes for $50.  That's a savings of $20 over regular unit prices.  And remember, any membership that donates 8 hours of volunteer time as the facility is readied for the new season's opening will be given one free book of 10 guest passes.  Please consider donating some time in April or May to assist the Buildings & Grounds Committee volunteers with getting the LSRC facility ready for opening and earn your book of 10 passes.

The Club rents the picnic pavilion and the snack bar canopy for blocks of time periods for members who wish to hold small groups or parties. For members who attend these events, admission to the Club is free.  For non-members, a guest pass with fee is required.  For the member who wishes to hold the party, there are savings available to reduce the event or party costs through purchase of the book of guest passes, which will reduce the unit guest pass cost from $7 to $5 per guest.  If your party or event has 10 or more guests, the guest fee is $5 per person.

Competition Pool, "Adult Only" Swim Periods

The competition pool will again have scheduled “Adult Only” hours. This schedule will be in effect unless the pool is being used for swim lessons or swim team practice, or the management company determines that the day’s demand requires opening the competition pool to all swimmers. Both pools will also be open to all swimmers on holidays.  The swim periods are:

The Management Company

For 2017, LSRC welcomes back SwimMetro Management, Inc., ("SwimMetro") for managing the LSRC pools and for providing lifeguard services.  The site's pools manager and lifeguards are employees of SwimMetro.  If you have any comments or suggestions for the company staff, please contact the LSRC Management Committee at:   mailto:golsrc@yahoo.com .  Please write "SwimMetro" in your subject line, for proper direction of your email.

Donations to LSRC

LSRC certainly welcomes voluntary donations to the Club to support its obligations, infrastructure and operations.  Contributions to the Buildings & Grounds Committee are used to make improvements to the LSRC facility.  In addition to the repairs required for our aging facility (which operates with many original parts and equipment), there are also a number of things members would like to see, such as fresh paint, new chairs and loungers, and landscaping.  We need your help to build this fund so we have the means to upgrade the critical systems of the Club.

During this upcoming season, we hope you will consider making a donation to any of these allocations, for immediate use:

  • Buildings & Grounds Committee (general uses)
  • B & G Committee:  Wood Decks
  • Tennis Committee
  • Swim Committee
  • Chairs Contributions
  • Re-plastering of Competition Pool (this one for future use)
  • Robbie Ashworth College Scholarship Fund
